WILDERNESS & REMOTE FIRST AID (WFA)

Now required for many Scouting activities and ACA boating instructors, this 16-hour intensive course immerses students in a hands-on learning environment. The focus of this course is common injury and illness recognition, treatment, management, and prevention – all geared toward remote environments where definitive care from a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available.

WILDERNESS ADVANCED FIRST AID (WAFA)

This 30-hour class, normally taught over two and a half to three days, offers a more thorough discussion of a larger variety of topics, and more hands-on practice for students, than a typical wilderness first aid class. This course follows the recommended curriculum set forth by the Wilderness Medical Society, enhanced with additional topics which CWS feels are important; leadership, communication, etc.

WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER (WFR)

This 72-80 hour course is the recognized industry standard for outdoor educators, guides, search and rescue groups, and others who are in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting, or individuals seeking a higher level of emergency medical training for extended back-country trips or expeditions. We use teaching methods that accommodate those with a range of prior medical training from minimal to professionals.

WILDERNESS EMT MODULE (WEMT)

This 5-day intensive course is designed for those holding current EMT-Basic certification through either State or National Registry, and is very fast paced. The course is will build upon the advanced knowledge of patient care of the EMT and will introduce wilderness protocols and procedures that are significantly different from those taught in urban settings.

EXPEDITION MEDICINE (XMED)

The aim of this five day-long Expedition Medicine course is to provide aspiring and experienced expedition physicians, medics and first responders with the hands-on skills and practical knowledge needed for expeditions around the world.

ADULT CPR/AED (AM. RED CROSS)

A prerequisite for both Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness Advanced First Aid, this 4-hour class will prepare you to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, and will teach you how to properly use an AED.
